Why Saint-Laurent-du-Var is the Best Municipality for Raising a Child in the Alpes-Maritimes Department

After comparing 444 municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants across France, the newspaper has declared Saint-Laurent-du-Var the best municipality in the Alpes-Maritimes department for raising a child.
So what makes Saint-Laurent-du-Var stand out?
The ranking was based on numerous statistics from INSEE and several statistics institutes, including the number of pediatricians on site, green spaces, schools, as well as the quality of nearby maternity wards and the capacity of daycare centers. And in these areas, Saint-Laurent-du-Var shines.
With 22 schools on its territory, the municipality of Saint-Laurent-du-Var offers ample educational opportunities for its young residents. The city also boasts 45 general practitioners for its approximately 31,000 inhabitants, ensuring easy access to healthcare.
And for outdoor activities, Saint-Laurent-du-Var has plenty to offer. There are 15 parks and places to stroll less than 10km from the town hall, providing ample green space for children to explore and play in.
Cagnes-sur-Mer and Nice far behind
However, while Saint-Laurent-du-Var may be the best municipality in the Alpes-Maritimes, it only ranks 36th nationally. The city of Cagnes-sur-Mer is ranked 128th, while Nice is ranked 230th. According to Le Parisien, major cities tend to fare poorly in the ranking due to factors like high housing costs, pollution, and safety concerns.
In fact, the safety gap between Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Nice is significant. Saint-Laurent-du-Var ranks 54th in safety, while Nice is at a much lower 409th. However, Nice does outrank its two neighboring cities in areas like the environment, where it comes in at 10th place. Saint-Laurent-du-Var is 34th in this category, while Cagnes-sur-Mer is ranked 128th.
So if you’re looking for the best place to raise your child in the Alpes-Maritimes region, Saint-Laurent-du-Var is the clear winner.
